Film student to premiere YouTube series

Dharmesh Patel, a senior mass communication major with an emphasis in film will be revolutionizing the film-making industry this March with the premier of his YouTube series, “Hood Etiquette.”

“Hood Etiquette,” a show written, directed and filmed solely by Patel, will be filmed within the walls of the Sam Houston State University Dan Rather Mass Communication Building featuring fellow students as actors. The entire show will be filmed and edited in its entirety via iPhone 6Plus.

HZ: What is the premise of your show?

DP: The purpose of the show is to place minorities in real world situations in a humorous setting. They are professional but still maintain a little bit of sass. This sass is only seen when they are with each other but when their coworkers are around they act very proper and professional.

HZ: Why are you interested in film-making?

DP: I love the art of storytelling. Film is so universal and brings many people together. I want to tell people stories.

HZ: What do you hope will come from the completion of your show?

DP: I want to show that I can take limited resources and create something funny, relate-able and entertaining.

HZ: What is your end-goal film-making wise?

DP: I want this to show people that I can write, create and produce something that can tell my story. Plus if HBO, Isa Rae or any other studio is watching I need a job.

HZ: How is your job as a journalist different from your job as a film maker?

DP: Both allow me to tell a story but as a journalist I am telling else’s story. Film making allows me to tell my stories.
